Information Analyst - Interview Questions
Modified By Sree on 5/23/2008 5:28:54 PM)

Hi Everyone,

I have an interview on 2nd June for the post of Information Analyst. I will be glad if any experienced Information Analyst can guide me on what kind of technical/competency question will be asked?

The key areas of the post are:

·         To carry out advanced analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data & information to support decisions on business development, health improvement and healthcare delivery.

·         Provide advice and guidance to CHO teams and managers on specialist analysis, for example statistical, forecasting, geographic mapping etc.

·         Lead on assigned areas to develop, design and maintain health data sets and reports.

·         Manage or contribute to projects or ongoing work-streams that address key business, analytical and information needs of CHO.

·         Produce regular and ad hoc performance reports and other reports to support the commissioning/contracting process for CHO.

·         Maintain and develop the CHO balanced scorecard database and produce regular reports from it.

The interview panel has just informed me that I need to prepare for 45 minutes of interview with 30 minutes of Excel test?

Any help will be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Sree

Re: Information Analyst - Interview Questions

Hi Sree,

I'm assuming that you already have experience in Information Analysis and that you have used the financial analysis features of MS Excel.  My guess is that the test will ask you to perform tasks such as: create a pivot table which shows how two sets of data relate.

Also, it looks like you are applying for a position in the healthcare industry and you will most likely have to deal with all the codes used in that domain.  If you are not familiar with that industry you might find this article very useful:

Re: Information Analyst - Interview Questions

Hi:

In interviewing for an analyst position, I like to "cut to the case".     I ask to see a representative functional model from one of their recent projects.   I ask for about 10 minutes alone with it.   I then apply the "gist" test.   That is that in about 10 minutes, me - as an outsider - should be able to get a high-level, but fairly accurate understanding to the projects essential functionality.  If you are able to get such understanding in about 10 minutes, take the job, you have found an excellent employer.  If the documentation is excessively implementataion oriented, and if you  have the luxury of time, move on to interviewing for another position.

Tony
