Re: Analyst's Thought of the Day

Thursday: 9:22 a.m.

Well, once again, I am being "called on the carpet" for my faulty short-term memory.    I ask a subject matter expert  "What is the procedure for doing .........?".   His repsonse:  "Remember, we talked about this before........ "      Later, I ask "How is ....... done?"   Again, his response "REMEMBER........."

I tell him that, like Einstien , I approach life from a high level of abstraction (needed for high-level business analysis) and therefore the details naturally often don't stick with me, but he just gives me a confused look.   Ohhh the lonelyness of being a concepts man!   How sad!

Re: Analyst's Thought of the Day

Nice technique to get them top spell things out in minute detail for you.

I remember restating a simle, but important principle to a project stakeholder last year.  His respponse; "No shit Sherlock."

Aterwards two other people in the meeting came up and thanked me for asking the questions they didn't want to be seen not to know.  Oh to be the dumbest person in the room.

It is only by dying (i.e., following the flow of data) that we are born again (i.e., come to understand the underlying logic of a software system).  - ajmarkos
