Associate BA - whats next?

Hello All,

Firstly, I would like to thank all members of 'Modern Analyst' community for this wonderful efforts to provide knowledge to entire analyst user group.

Currently, I am Associate Business Analyst and I have a year of experiance. In the past, I have done 2 internships for about 3-6 months. However, I had an unemployement after I did my MS in Information Systems from May 2006 to May 2007. Now that I have finished a year with this company, I would like to expand my knowledge so that I can grow my career ahead. Could anyone suggest any exams for BA or any material that I can selfstudy from job perspective? Last Fall, I completed 'Certificate in Applied  Project Management' course from Boston University corporate learning and I was planning to give CAPM (certified Associate Project Manager) exam. However, I am not sure if that will be worth giving to enhance my career as BA.

Overall, I would like to go ahead in my career by expanding my knowledge but I am clueless where to start. I would like to change my job however before doint that, I would like to make sure that I get enough to right in my Resume if I choose to be a business analyst.

I appreciate your help in advance.

- GNP

Hi GNP,

Since you already took project management courses from Boston University you might consider doing the same in business analysis - especially if you had good experience with them.

Here is a link to their "Business Analysis Certificate" program:

There are other great training providers out there such as: EBG Consulting who will give you a discount if you are a ModernAnalyst.com member.

Thank You Adrian.

I appreciate your help. However, I have few questions here:

1) Is there any other exam I can take after finishing this course or self study?

2) As I said earlier, I was considering giving CAPM. Will that help me in my BA career?

Have you looked into the IIBA's CBAP ?

Remember there's no I in team... (but there is an M and an E)

Re: Associate BA - whats next?

Yes BrazilianBA. I have looked at it several times. However, I dont fulfil the requirements in order to qualify for that exam. I was searching for exams similar to CAPM in BA field. But seems there arent any. You just have to grow with your experiance.

Thanks,
GNP
