Re: Is Business Analyst Position needed in Agile SDLC at all?
[Can someone please tell me the differences between the Scrum Master and the Business Analysts? I know the Scrum Master may not do all the activities that a BA can do. But, my question here is, Scrum Master will escalate all the impediments faced by the team members to the Project Owner to get it resolved within no time. However, if any of the team members have any questions with the requirements or configuration issues, they will run to BA to clarify it. BA's will clarify the questions, if not, make a note and discuss with Product Owner to get it clarified. I seem to find that the Scrum Master and BA are doing the same job here. Is that how it is usually? or Am I thinking wrong?

I really appreciate the answers.

Thank you

A company i know just implemented agile and fired a lot of business analysts since they don't think they are needed. They think the product owner can do it all.

Re: Is Business Analyst Position needed in Agile SDLC at all?

Hi Qwertyjjj,

As a BA Manager and Deputy Change Director, I would personally say that that is quite short sighted. Theoretically, a Product Owner could do the BA's role, but they do a lot of their own work as well, so I would have thought that would rather over load them.

I know a number of people here in the UK and abroad (including the US), that have the same type of role as me and I cant recall any of them getting rid of their BA's.

As far as I am concerned, there is still very much a job for the BA. They may work more closely with other people in Agile, but I don't regard that as a bad thing.
