Newbie,
David has given some great advice. It is always easier to find a new position within your current company even if you are looking to switch roles. Thought it sounds like this isn't an option for you.
First, let me asure you that you are not alone in your frustration. I can remember the days when I was trying to land a job as a junior develop or the first time I tried to secure a position in the financial services industry. It's always very difficult.
In my experience, few companies look to hire junior analysts. This is usually because of several reasons.
- Companies almost always wait too long to staff up projects. This leaves them with too much work and too few staff, so they feel they have even less time to train people and want senior professionals who they think will be productive faster and accomplish more over time.
- Companies often don't know how to properly train junior employees, nor do they have appropriate processes and methods in places to do so.
I'm not telling you this to discourage you, but so that you can prepare for the difficulties ahead of you. There are enough companies out there that some will hire junior analysts. The good news is that, in my experience, its the best companies that hire junior analysts. These are the companies that have structured processes and training programs in place to train junior analyst. Also, if a hiring manager is smart, they will oftern realize that its easier to train a bright and enthusiastic junior candidate over a more senior one that lacks the same enthusiam and may have there own way of doing things
Stay hopeful and keep looking!
