Job Ads Are Looking More And More For a Jack-Of-All-Trades

With the current economy and cutbacks...the job postings I get now are no longer specialist stuff, they want people who can do the whole thing...a Jack-Of-All-Trades who is able to work through all phases of the SDLC independently...someone with a technical and database background...knowledge of different platforms and technologies....able to take a project from an Idea through development, implementation and support....an Analyst, Architect, Developer, Change Management, Project Manager, facilitator...and everything else.

There is lots of competition for jobs out there and being a 1 trick pony just ain't going to make it anymore...unless your trick is having the knowledge to be a Jack-Of-All-Trades.

Re: Job Ads Are Looking More And More For a Jack-Of-All-Trades
Here is an example of what I've been getting...They are a combination of Project Manager and Business Analyst.
"I'm reaching out to you today in response to an urgent requirement which was just released by one of my clients - who seek experienced Senior Business Analysts/Project Managers to join a growing team.
Positions and are hybrid BA/PM roles combining the typical tasks and responsibilties associated with IT business analysis and project management".

As a contractor for over 25 years, I usualy always play multipe project roles to get things done...and many times I have to own the entire project life-cycle myself...from idea through implementation, training and maintenance.

Times are hard, companies want the most for their buck and like I said "There is lots of competition for jobs out there and being a 1 trick pony just ain't going to make it anymore...unless your trick is having the knowledge to be a Jack-Of-All-Trades".

Dont let that prevent you from applying.  We just hired a BA at the company I work for and the job posting was more of a wish list.  The person that got the job certainly didn't meet all the requirements......

Hi,

Don't give up applying for a job. Not everyone is a jack-of-all-trades and there are no perfect employees. It counts a lot if you are a jack-of-all-trades and master to one. Because the "one" might be your wild card for you get into one of a thousand jobs.
