CBAP Certification?
Modified By Rajesh Murjwani on 2/24/2008 9:17:20 AM)

Team,

Could you please guide me on CBAP certification by IIBA. I am a senior software developer in an IT industry with three years of experience and I am looking for the Business Analyst role further. I would like to know the following.

1. I have 3 years of experience as a developer. Am I eligible to appear for CBAP Certification exam? What is the eligibiligy criteria?

2. Where is the examination conducted? I'm in Bombay, India. Do they have test centres across different locations and in Mumbai?

3. Is the exam conducted online?

4. Are there any books, course materials, etc available in the market?

Thanks,

Rajesh

Hey Rajesh,

1.  Check out http://download.theiiba.org/files/Certification/CBAP_Handbook.pdf for details on the eligibility requirements.  One of the requirements is 7500 hrs of BA experience, which you must relate to BA activities and deliverables.  This can be potentially audited (ie. they ask for references to back up your claims).  There is also a good associated FAQ at http://download.theiiba.org/default.asp?fileid=77&categoryid=2

2. The current exam schedule is listed at http://www.theiiba.org/content.asp?ContentId=583.

3. According to my local IIBA chapter, online testing is expected to begin in Q2 2008.  Check out their website to stay posted.

4. The CBAP is based on the IIBA Body of Knowledge (BABOK).  The current version is available at http://download.theiiba.org/default.asp?fileid=26&categoryid=3.  There is one set of study questions available online from a third party currently, but as the BABOK is being upgraded to V2 later this year I wouldn't spend money on practice questions until you can qualify to write.
