Salary negotiations

Hi friends

I am persuing through an interview process for Junior Business Systems Analyst position. My target company is a big brand including over 3400 employees.

I am just wondering that if they ask me about expected salary, what would be an appropriate range to answer. I have 3 years of experience from backhome in IT and this offer would be my first IT job in canada.

Could you please suggest me a suitable answer because i dont want to loose this opportunity for few grands.

Su

Re: Salary negotiations

Hi Su,

You have the right attitude: use this opportunity to get your foot in the door, so to speak, and to gain some business analysis experience.  If you can land a junior business systems analyst position it would be a great stepping stone for your career.  My gut feeling tells me that you should be looking for a salary somewhere between $45K and $55K (in US Dollars - you can convert that into Canadian dollars).

If you really want this job just let them know that you are open and flexible and to make you an offer which they think is reasonable.  Once you land the job, if you do a good job the increases will come.  Also - after 2-3 years you can always move with another company after you gain the coveted first years of experience as a business systems analyst.

Hope this helps!

Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
