BA Responsibilities but not on Paper
Modified By Joe on 7/15/2009 6:00:45 PM)

Hello Everyone,

I've been working as a Business Analyst for 5 - 6 years now; my responsibilities are compatible with a Business Analyst however my boss had to call my position as Analyst Level II in order to dodge the budgeting and auditing questions. The problem is that I am 10 K below what a BA median Range should be for this position but am in the 75% of an analyst level. I've tried over the year to explain that the incorrect coding of my position causes issues with the salary ranges but I am always sided budget and auditing issues. I'm currently covering the BA and the IT Role.

Has anyone of you had a similar issue and how did you approach it?

Re: BA Responsibilities but not on Paper

What I am reading is that you are doing the same work as others but are being paid less.  Possibly the name of your current job has an impact on this, but possibly there are other issues at play here as well.

Maybe you should document your current responsibilities and then compare them to both your current Job Description and to that of the Business Analysts you are comparing yourself to. This could reveal two things; that you are in fact doing the same job as them, or that there are gaps.

If there are gaps you now have your professional development plan drafted and ready for a talk with your manager.

If you are doin the same BA job you should have a talk with your manager.  But be aware that just becasue you are doing the same job doesn't mean you are worth the same money in your current role.  THe department you are in is a context and you need to understand how that is the same or different to the IT department in order to negotiate a change.

Good luck
