Need advise on future of my career
Modified By Chris Adams on 5/2/2018 11:08:22 AM)

Hello,

I did my engineering in chennai. After doing i dint get any job so i decided to do CCNA course.Even though i dint get job ,but finally after 6 months of searching i got a job.I had switched 3 companies till now. At present I'm working as a consultant in GOA. My manager who has done MS in US and worked in US for a company for 3 years. After that he came to INDIA and he was working from home. There was requirement for more so he decided to hire 6 more people and all 6 are working from his home in GOA. We get paid from US in dollars. But now problem is the company is going in loss and i had to start to search for different job. My question is" I'm working as consultant for 1.5 years here. If I try to search for jobs in India, does the companies hire me or not. Will my experience is countable or not".

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

Thanks

Re: Need advise on future of my career

Hi there rcrdmcdaniel,

As a BA Manager I can tell you that there is no easy answer to this. It depends entirely on the company that you are applying for a job from.

As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't stop being a 'Consultant' counting as experience - it rather depends what you did during that time. You need to accentuate (highlight) in your CV the skills and times where you worked using the skills a BA would. Make the Consultant role sound like a BA role, even if it actually wasn't.

In the UK, some questions would be asked about the set up, but in India a a whole team working from someone's home is probably acceptable. I would not mention it unless asked myself.

So, I don't feel personally that your 1.5 years as a consultant would stop you getting BA roles. Have you considered also looking for other consultant roles as well? I presume you want your next job in India? I am not 100% knowledgeable, although have worked with offshore Dev teams before. As I say, highlight all areas which fit closest to a skill that a BA would do and then see what happens. If you are un-successful ask for feedback to see what it is that stopped you getting a particular job.

Good luck with the search and let us know how you got on. Your experiences may help others from that area.

Re: Need advise on future of my career

Dear Daniel:

A role is a collection of responsibilities. Organizations define fancy role names such as 'Business partner evangelist.'

The intention of creating such names is to be unique and to lure the candidates.

The HR job recruiters will only focus on the responsibilities you carried out to perform the job.

To answer your question:

  1. you need not worry about the title (role)
  2. focus on articulating the transferable skills you have gained during your tenure

An engineering graduate armed with a CCNA certificate having 1.5 years of proven experience is more than enough to sail through the employment market seamlessly.

All the very best!

Yes, companies in India will hire you with 1.5 years of consulting experience for a US company. Highlight your transferable skills, be prepared to explain why you are leaving, and network with people in your field.

I have always loved cooking. I learned from my Grandma June and her kitchen was her sanctuary, a small, warm sunlit space filled with jars of spices, stacks of cookbooks, and the comforting smell of something always on the stove or baking in the oven. Grandma June was as great a cook as she was a teacher to me. She never followed a recipe “to...
