Need Advice - PM is a micro-manager
I need some advice on PMs.  I have been a BA for about 15 years and have lead many projects, including some very large projects to completion.  I have been respected as a SME in my area and provided guidance to other BAs.  I have had many PMs over the course of my BA career and everyone does things a little different.  My current PM is a micro-manager, in my opinion.  I say, my opinion, because perhaps I just don't understand the PM role.  The PMs before this one I have now didn't get to the level of detail this PM seems to....and maybe they were just lazy (LOL).  I don't know, but it is really getting under my skin and I don't want it to.  This PM seems to go beyond just project management, very involved in the all the details of everything that goes on......wants to be invited to EVERY meeting and comes to EVERY meeting.  If this PM is left off, then you hear about it.  IF this PM is cc'd on an Email, this PM will ask you if you have responded to that person.  My prior PMs have just understood that I will get the project done and respond to questions and only get involved when I have an issue that needs PM attention, for example, no response from a stakeholder, or another team is not providing what they said they would, etc.  What does a PM really do and what is a typical level of project engagement for a PM.  Any help would be appreciated - I want to have a good relationship with everyone on my team and have up to this point, but now I'm just getting annoyed and that's not where I want to be.

Re: Need Advice - PM is a micro-manager

Hi Baky,

I'm working on a project with a PM like that. I ended up talking to him about it. We both ended up compromising in that I put up with more supervision than I need and he put up with less control than he needs.

Recommend you talk to him/her about it.

Kimbo
