Joining a project team: What's your onboarding strategy?

As you join a project team, what are the most critical pieces of information or documents that you gather? Do you follow a type of checklist or plan? What conversations do you want to have first, and with whom, as you build your knowledge?

TIA for your replies, and it would be very interesting to know your industry and general size of your department and company.

Regards,
