Seeking advice on business analysis

Hello All.

I am new to the forum and seeking some advice regarding Business analysis. I've been working as a BA providing production support and managing small to medium size projects from the Requirements phase to post implementation. I have experience translating high level requirements to detail functional requirments  using UML, Processing modelling,  UAT testing, creating master test plan. I am looking for an opportunity to leverage my business ANALYSIS skills . My concern is that I don't have enough experience in doing BUSINESS ANALYSIS work, RESEARCH, Feasibility studies or Data Analysis. When I go for interviews , they ask me questions if I have done any analysis work and I answer them by providing examples like I"ve analysed AS IS processes and create TO BE process flows, analysed operational issues using process flows (causal analysis) and make recommendations to decrease production downtime. But as far as RESEARCH are concerned, I"ve not done enough.

MY QUESTIION is HOW CAN I GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEVERAGE THIS BUSINESS ANALYIS EXPERIENCE. I was turn down in an interview because I haven't done extensive business analysis work and i've not worked ON NET NEW PROJECTS. I've always work on existing sysyem. I am even looking to do some volunteer work in BUSINESS ANALYSIS.

I would much appreciate any kind of advice from all BAs or other IT professionals in case you read my thread?

Thanks in advance...

DEE
