Business Area Definition Document

Dear All,

I am a recent recruit to the world of Business Analysis and I would like to tap into the shared knowledge of BAs on this site in regards to a Business Area Definition document. My colleague has spent a great deal of time trying to research this online but as such has drawn a blank. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction regarding what it is and what the content should be?

Many thanks for any assistance,

Zoe

Dear Zoe,

Can you provide more details as to what you think the "Business Area Definition" document is?  What are you trying to accomplish?

Re: Business Area Definition Document

The phrase sounds like local jargon.  If we observe the plain english meaning we get "Define each business area."

How to define them?

Try some of the following

  1. Top level manageent reports
  2. Number of staff
  3. Revenues and costs
  4. The core value they contribute to the organsaition, customer, shareholders etc
  5. High to mid level business processes
  6. The IT systems each unit uses

That will take a few days to put together :)

Make sure you confirm this is what hey are expedting.  Feel free to email (via the Modern Ananalyst profiles) me if you want some help.

Craig
