BA with non-IT and no domain background

Hi All,

Its a wonderful forum for all the discussions related to BA. I have recently joined a big IT company after finishing my MBA in Marketing this year. It was a campus recruitment.I am a non engineer with a BSc degree. I have been put into the Testing field and BFSI domain. Prior to MBA I had BPO and back office experience of 4 years. I have been hired as a Management Trainee and was told that I would be performing a BA role.

As you can see that I do not have an IT background nor do I have any banking experience. Now I will be put into a small project to learn and perform testing. This is to make sure that I am not not sitting idle and I learn the testing process so that I can write test cases. I have been told that after you have done this for 4-5 months then you will be better equipped to handle a BA role.

Can please somebody help me understand that how much of testing knowledge is required to perform the BA role well? Also we do have a BA Academy within the organisation which grooms their own BAs. I am planning to go for that course also in future. I am also learning about the domain by reading about it as much as possible through various sources. I want to know how should I shape up my career in the present organisation?

Cheers

Hitesh
