Re: please suggest

Hi Snovia,

Your previous experience, especially if it is in a specific domain will be an advantage to start as a BA.

I suggest you to start learning the analysis process, responsibilities of BAs, tools used by BAs, etc and understand them. I encourage you to read the articles available in this website and make use of the other resources. You can also learn by observing the BAs in your team.

Once you become confident, you look for the opportunity in your current organization for a BA role. This would be an easy transition for you.

Wish you success!

-Jessy

Hi,
Why dont you start some home based work? You are now in IT industry and you know many people earn a lot through SMB therefore my opinion is you should go some freelancing community. I know some websites like Odesk, servana and lime-exchange where you can register and meet with different SMB owners to get more help.

Re: please suggest

Hi Snovia,

I also made the career change from QA engineer to Business Analyst. I found that my systems knowledge helped me be a successful BA in that same company. As a BA I learned the fundamentals of business analysis and my career emerged from there. You will gain many related BA experiences if you are being a critical consumer of requirements, running meetings, and understanding what a good requirements specification looks like. I would suggest you learn about the BA fundamentals, using resources like ModernAnalyst, and then look for ways to incorporate BA responsibilities into your work. Most BAs emerged from related roles, such as QA, by seizing opportunities to build experiences.

I talk about this more in my book as well, How to Start a Business Analyst Career.

Thanks,

Laura
