Business Analyst Education

Hi!

I have started working as BA, 6 months ago. Before I worked in Banking.

I would like to know, if some of you can recommend a  complete BA course/diploma in Europe (ex. UK, Ireland, etc.) . I underlined complete, because I would preffer to take a course which covers as many aspects of analysis as possible, than to do individual modules at different schools/training companies.

Thanks!

Re: Business Analyst Education

Hi Vlad,

Check out this training company in the UK which offers training for Business Analysts:

ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis

They are affiliated with the British Computer Society (BCS).  They offer a series of 4 courses and then, for the actual diploma, you have to take an examination administered by the BCS.

Hope this helps!

- Adrian

Re: Business Analyst Education
Vlad,

As Adrian has said - we would offer a course that I think will meet your needs:

Fundamentals of Business Analysis Training Course (ISEB Part I)

The course is aimed at junior or trainee business analysts with little or no experience, or up to about 18 months experience. However, more experienced Business Analysts have attended the course and found it extremely useful in consolidating and focusing their skills and knowledge.

The course is also suited to trainees embarking on a career in change management, IT or project management, as it provides a useful insight into the project lifecycle and the need for robust requirements and a rigorous and methodical approach.

For delegates interested in achieving their ISEB Business Analysis qualification, there is an optional fifth day of training which covers the remaining parts of the Requirements Engineering syllabus followed by an open-book exam. This is one of four modules required for the qualification.

Business Analysis Course Objectives

By the end of the course the Business Analyst will be able to:

  1. Integrate into a project or team environment with an understanding of their role, key responsibilities and relationship with fellow project members
  2.  Work with business users to gather and document different types and levels of requirement
  3.  Work with business users to define, scope and initiate a project
  4.  Break-down complex business scenarios or problems into process and data models
  5.  Validate requirements by producing Use Cases and assess requirements against defined quality criteria
  6.  Apply end-to-end thinking to complex business and system problems to ensure ‘right first time’ documentation and solutions
  7.  Work with business users and delivery teams to develop optimum solutions to defined requirements
  8.  Confidently present findings to business users and their project team

OPTIONAL EXTRA DAY: Having done the Fundamentals course, delegates are in an excellent position to ‘top up’ their knowledge to a sufficient level to sit the ISEB Certificate in Requirements Engineering. This certificate is concerned with approach to requirements definition and its focus is on using a systematic approach to eliciting, analysing, validating, documenting and managing requirements. The cost for this extra day is £300 inclusive of the exam fee.

Attendees of this course may go on to attend our Advanced Business Analysis course in order to achieve their ISEB Business Analysis diploma. Delegates who already hold the Requirements Engineering Certificate will not need to attend that part of the course.

Course Structure

Module 1 - Introduction to the BA Role
Module 2 – Defining a Project
Module 3 - Interviewing and Fact Finding
Module 4 - Requirements Definition
Module 5 - Process Modelling
Module 7 – Ensuring Requirements Quality
Module 8 - Managing Delivery
Module 9 - Review
(Day 5 Optional) Module 10 – Requirements Engineering

On-site training clients may replace the Process Modelling and Data Modelling modules with a UML based module which describes the key UML techniques relevant to business analysis. This includes Class Diagrams, Use Cases, Activity Diagrams and Dynamic Modelling.

Click Fundamentals of Business Analysis Course Structure for a description of the above modules or download the detail on the objectives and course content.

Case Study

A team-based case study is used throughout covering all the course modules as well as dealing with:

  • User conflicts
  • System integration issues
  • Changes to requirements/scope
  • Business process change
  • Organisational change

Delegates are encouraged to make short informal presentations at the end of each case study exercise to build their confidence.

If required you can then progress to the Advanced course which takes you through the remaining Certificates required by the ISEB Diploma In Business Analysis from BCS. If you would like further details of all this visit our website at www.businessanalystsolutions.com or contact me directly [email protected]

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Guy
