Career as BA

Hi,

I am from India.I am currently doing MBA in systems(MIS) from a reputed university. I have completed my graduation in chemistry.

I always had inclination towards I.T but was never interested in programming. My question is will my background be an obsatcle in becoming a good  B.A.

P.S   I am thankful to this forum that  a  lot is discussed of B.A  which is scarce here.

Re: Career as BA

Chetan,

Welcome!

There have been lots written about what attributes make a “good” BA. Apart of the traditional soft skills that get touted around I still think a good analyst must be able to THINK in the abstract as well as concretely. The latter is the easy one, because all you have to do is find out what people say they do. For example, Jow might say “I get the invoice from Jeff then I copy the pink copy and send the yellow and photo copy to Mary”. However, when you view and think about the same process in an abstract manner, you need to ask yourself “what is happening here?” and discover that he is archiving the invoice. This is what De Marco called essential modelling. Good analysts that I have worked with seem to have a natural ability for abstract/essential/conceptual thinking. And, if you succeed at doing an MBA, which relies much on conceptual thing, I do think you’ll do OK.

Warm regards,
K
