Villanova Master Certificate in Business Analysis

Hello All,

My name is Mike and I am looking into the Master Certificate in BA from Villanova. To give you a little background on me. I am currently a Sr. Systems Analyst at a major entertainment company. I recently received my Masters of Science Degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Project Management & Leadership and have been in PM for about three years.

Part of my job involves basic gathering of requirements, and analysis of data in a quick and efficient manner. I a have been looking at the program at Villanova ans was wondering if anyone has been through this program or any other similar program that might be able to help me get a better understanding of BA. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Villanova Master Certificate in Business Analysis

Mike,

It looks fine as a program from what I can see - I have no idea how good it is as I never hear of it before your post!

However, before comitting to the time and money involved my advice would be analyse your own requirements for how you would know that it was a course worth taking. You say that you need some knowledge for "basic gathering of requirements, and analysis of data in a quick and efficient manner". How will you know that you are able to gather basic requirements and what measure will tell you that your analysis of data is quick and efficient? In other words, how will you measure the success of the training? And, significantly, what are your SMART objectives for this learning?

You also say that you are looking for " a better understanding of BA" - if that is the case (and leaving aside the question of how you will know that you have a better understanding of being a BA!) then I would suggest that a couple of books will do the job quicker and cheaper. There are LOTS of books on Business Analysis!

- Hope this is of use,

Guy

I am in the middle of this program right now, and I find it suits my needs as someone transitioning from developer to BA very well.  The video lectures (either online or on CD) are informative and the instructors personable.  While the quizzes are based on the lectures only, there are lots of additional learning opportunities in the recommended reading and the live online classroom (classroom sessions are also recorded so that you can listen to them later, but without the interactive element, of course), as well as the exercises that go along with the lectures.

As I say, as someone transitioning into the field, it suits my needs very well.  Only you can decide whether it's worth the cost for you to enroll in the program, considering your already impressive background.

Re: Villanova Master Certificate in Business Analysis

It is kind of expensive for 100% ON-LINE, - over $5K.

IMHO of cause.

What exclusive course do  they have you are not able to find in internet for free?

Please share your minds about it.

Thanks.
