Payroll Business Analyst University of California

About the role: 

As the Payroll Accounting Business Analyst, you will be a valuable asset, providing expert strategic business analysis services to business partners at various locations, including medical centers and the UC Path Center. You will collaborate closely to gain an in-depth understanding of their specific needs and the context in which they operate. 

 

Your key responsibility will be to thoroughly review assigned business processes from end-to-end, identifying and addressing any potential operational, financial, and technological risks. In addition, you will provide essential support to our technical and business teams, helping to define application requirements and translating industry best practices and regulations into System-wide requirements. 

 

How your time will likely be spent: 

35%: Partner with internal business teams in defining payroll and accounting related business processes and associated system requirements. Partner with system-wide and location resources to develop and deliver system roadmaps.  

 

25%, Identify, evaluate and define medium to complex payroll and accounting related business and system requirements. Assist with the development of business requirement documents, functional design documents and test plans.  

 

25%, Participate in system implementation projects as a payroll and accounting subject matter expert. Gather, analyze, prepare and summarize recommendations for approval of payroll and accounting related business process and procedural documentation.  

 

15%, Assist with the day-to-day payroll and accounting responsibilities of the Financial Accounting unit.

Additional Skills:

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years and / or equivalent experience / training. 
Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. 
Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT. 
Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. 
In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description. 
Broad knowledge relating to software design. 
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. 
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. 
Recent and relevant experience working in high-volume multi-state, multi-entity payroll environment. 
Strong working knowledge of payroll laws and processes. 
Proven ability to handle multiple projects at once. 
Personable and able to maintain a positive working relationship with location resources and team members.
