ANSWER

A paradigm shift in business analysis is a fundamental change in how a problem or opportunity is understood, analyzed, or solved.  Rather than improving what already exists, the analyst challenges the assumptions and constraints that define the current system.

For example, moving from manual approvals to automated business rules is not simply an efficiency improvement—it redefines how decisions are made.

This kind of shift changes the very framework of the process rather than its surface details.

Why it matters:

  • Incremental improvements eventually reach diminishing returns.
  • Business environments evolve faster than legacy processes and technologies.
  • A paradigm shift allows organizations to rethink outdated models and unlock exponential gains.

Recognizing when to initiate a paradigm shift is one of the hallmarks of a mature analyst—transforming limited optimizations into long-term strategic value.
