Benefits Analysis

Hi,

I have recently been tasked to carry out benefits analysis for a pilot implementation of an automated module in an existing legacy system.

Can someone point me to resources or provide suggestions for methodologies for creating a scheme to do this analysis? Pointers to document this study will be of great help too.

Here is what I have been thinking so far (not as scientific but want to be as objective as possible):

1. Understand as-is and to-be scenarios/processes.

2. Create metrics and means to derive them.

3. Understand constraints around those metrics and finalize assumptions.

4. Document-Present.

Thanks!

Re: Benefits Analysis

BigGuy,

Think with your business hat on. 1. Identify business stakeholders. 2. Identify benefits to the stakeholders if the project goes on. 3. Cost the benefit v project cost

Simplistic but it'll get you started.

Re: Benefits Analysis

Deriving costs is where I am stuck. I understand that putting an objective number to COSTs is going to be very difficult unless I talk to all the stakeholders and factor their efforts in the AS-IS scenario in.

Thanks for the direction.

Re: Benefits Analysis

Defining your benefits is a key thing too of course. Intangibles like 'reputation' are probably worth writing but impossible to cost. If you haven't heard of it, check out the SMART acronym on wikipedia
