This MS Excel traceability matrix could be used when a software tool is not available. It provides a cross match between the business and functional requirements on a project.

Paste the business requirements in the header row and the functional requirements in the corresponding column. Then mark the intersections of all the functional requirements related to a selected business requirement.

Should be careful and keep both the requirements document and the traceability matrix in sync.
