Block Diagrams are used to depict the compositional structures of systems. Their main graphical elements are agent, storages and channels. It intends to describe a static structure of a software system and, thus, provides a conceptual view on the architecture of this particular system. An extension to the UML meta model is defined within the scope of this standardized modeling in order to formally extend the basic UML component diagrams.
