ANSWER

The Requirements Analysis knowledge area of the BABOK describes activities and methods used to analyze stated requirements and transform them into a potential solution which possesses the capabilities that will fulfill the stakeholder needs.  It includes specifying and modeling both stakeholder requirements (requirements which describe WHAT capabilities the solution must have in order to meet the needs of various stakeholder groups) and solution requirements (requirements which describe HOW the solution will meet the needs of stakeholders ).

Requirements analysis also covers developing domain models of the current state of the organization which may be used to validate the scope of the solution with stakeholders, identify opportunities for improvement, or to aid stakeholders in their understanding of the current state during solution review meetings.

The tasks involved in the Requirements Analysis knowledge area include:

  1. Prioritize Requirements
  2. Organize Requirements
  3. Specify and Model Requirements
  4. Define Assumptions and Constraints
  5. Verify Requirements
  6. Validate Requirements

Do your homework prior to the business analysis interview!

Having an idea of the type of questions you might be asked during a business analyst interview will not only give you confidence but it will also help you to formulate your thoughts and to be better prepared to answer the interview questions you might get during the interview for a business analyst position.  Of course, just memorizing a list of business analyst interview questions will not make you a great business analyst but it might just help you get that next job.
