How to manage large numbers of requirements?

Hello,

I am new to analysis and i'm reading about requirements. At the moment i am working on a video game for a friend and want to formalize the processes a bit so that we can manage it more effectively. The problem we have is that, for the game, there are potentially hundreds of requirements to do with gameplay, scenes, storylines.etc. Does anyone know how I can go about organizing the requirements so that we can handle them easier?

Thanks,

- R

Re: How to manage large numbers of requirements?

Hi Rick,

One of the ways to organize your requirements is to first think of your video game as a system made of various components or functional areas.  Try to decompose the game software into distinct domains and then, if necessary, further decompose each domain into sub-domains.  Then capture requirements for each sub-domain.

There are many ways to decompose the capabilities of a system:

  • functional areas
  • user types (personas)
  • baseline features (MVP) vs. add-on or advance features
  • key processes (process model)
  • data flow model
  • etc.

Here are some additional helpful resources:

Hope this helps!

Adrian
