Hi

I started as a developer and moved into BA world. I have been BA for close to 10 years now. I was working with a small team who hardly as a separate testing team - PM, BA, Dev team and business.

Recently I moved to work in a large programme (bank) where I work with a lot of BAs and I feel their knowledge is much more broader than me in terms of understanding the stakeholders in a programme and different forums, sign offs involved etc. I also started thinking about BA career and wondering how I can understand a programme, how senior leadership works in bank (as I always been with a small team within a bank). As next step how can I become a business architect? will it be like starting from scratch if I become business architect?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards,

P

Hi All,

I need some serious advice from all you senior BAs.

I started as a s/w programmer and moved to sales marketing function primarily in the IT services industry. Later on in my current organization, I was offered the job of a BA to work with our customer who is a leader in outsource contact center management provide inbound and outbound sales and marketing services to its customers across industry verticals. I've worked on couple of projects (not core CRM implementation) with this client and have gained sound exposure in the sales and marketing processes including some process redesign work. Have demonstrated quantifiable results. Now I want to move on for better opportunities and better money. My concern is that though I've am quite strong on the process side of CRM I don't have any functional consulting experience on CRM packages (i.e Oracle, Siebel, MS Dynamics etc.). Do you guys think, this could become a major roadblock in my hope to chart a career in the CRM space? Please advise....

Did you know that when you apply for a job online, your resume isn&rsquo;t landing straight into the hands of a recruiter or hiring manager? First, it gets filtered through an ATS (Applicant Tracking System).

Here are the facts:

- 98% of Fortune 500 companies, 66% of large organizations, and 35% of small businesses use ATS software. So, if you&#39;re applying online, you&#39;re likely dealing with an ATS.

These systems screen out or reject 70% or more of resumes for two main reasons:

- The resume doesn&rsquo;t match the required qualifications or is missing key keywords.

- The resume format is not compatible with the ATS, so it can&#39;t extract the necessary information.

Having an ATS-optimized resume is the critical first step to beating the bots and getting your resume in front of real human eyes. As unemployment rates drop, companies are fighting harder for top talent. That&rsquo;s why AI-powered tools like ATS are giving hiring managers the upper hand.

&#39;m currently work as a BA for a digital agency that implement technology solutions for large customers (strategic level digital transformation projects).

Since joining, I have noticed that the BA position feels very different on the agency side. Companies tend to approach us when they have already done (or believe they have done) a lot of the analysis on their side. They usually have identified their problems, objectives, and often have a clear idea in their head of the solution they want to implement. The obvious impact of this is they are reluctant to pay for too much of this &#39;discovery&#39; work to happen, even if we need to validate it or feel we could do better analysis, or if more is needed.

Furthermore, most clients typically have their own BAs who understand their business far better than we ever could. Granted they may not always be as skilled BAs, but they&#39;re always going to hold the cards in terms of business knowledge. This creates an awkward situation where it&#39;s not clear how to split the responsibilities between client BA supplier BA, and often we have to use the client BA as a stakeholder proxy (not getting access to stakeholders).

A lot of this has led me to ponder whether I return to being a BA in industry, where you can actually become an expert in that particular business. I know consultantcy side gives much more breadth and generalised skills, but it also feels like it can squeeze a lot of the &#39;business&#39; part out of the business analysis. And almost feels like they are two very different roles.

I&#39;m keen to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences..how have you found the differences between client supplier side? Who do you think is most suited to each? What do you think are the pros and cons?

Hello guys, I am an entrepreneur and I would like to expand my knowledge to improve my business. I am currently interested in specializing in Software Development and I am looking for an economical alternative that allows me to study remotely for business purposes.

I have seen a university called Tech but I don&#39;t know anything about it, do you have any experience of having studied at Tech or any other information that could be useful to me apart from what appears on their website? Thank you.

In my experience with TECH it has been very good, since its contents are updated and you can manage your time to study without affecting your other tasks. It also has a fully interactive and easy-to-navigate platform.

Hello everyone! I am lucky to find this forum! So without any delays :

I recently completed my bachelors in computer science from a well reputed university in my country. Unfortunately, I am a bad programmer by nature. Even during my last exams, I was not sure that I should apply for development job, qa job or ba job! I cracked an interview in a very good IT company and have been working there for 5 months. But slowly and gradually I realized that my doubt was correct that programming is not for me. Even if I hustle day and night for the next 2 years, I will still be a mediocre programmer. So I have decided that I would do something which I enjoy doing.

During my bachelors my biggest strength as compared to all my friends were my presentation and communication skills. I got A grades in them. I love researching on topics and explaining them in the most easiest manner even if the topic is of AI or machine learning. I love to listen to people and think acording to their perspective. I love leading things, motivating my juniors and planning things way before.

These all traits make me convinced that Business Analyst is something which I should try. Along with this as a side learning I will build up my Data Analysis skills by doing certifications etc. But I am not sure about Data Analyst, maybe business analyst role would be enough for me. But learning things is not a bad thing I guess. There is a very cool guy who has worked as a business analyst and data analyst too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIbL4aSUIas

So here I am with :

1) Bs Computer Science 2) 5 months(and counting) experience as Associate Software Engineer

Now I am doing some certifications from Linkedin Learning related to business analyst. I will provide list of courses and would need advice from you guys that which certifications i should complete quickly.

Also I have to think ahead too. Should I do an Mba from a well reputed institute from my country and save money in my country or should I look for scholarships from abroad for any relavent masters program. Since I want myself to be earning in abroad where there are good oppurtunities for BAs.

Thanks a lot! Waiting for your precious advices!

Note : The only thing which scares me is of getting unemployed since I am sole earner of house. There are plently of jobs of developers but not of BA.

Hello guys,

I am a senior business analyst and was wondering if I could get some help with my resume. I&#39;ve read through some of the articles on the website and have found them immensely helpful. I&#39;ve always been fortunate that a resume of 3-4 pages has gotten the job done until now. I was wondering if some of the senior business analysts on the forum could post their resumes (5-10 years of experience) and show me how they limit it to 1-2 pages while hitting all the key words and converying everything necessary. I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you so much

Hello everybody.

I run a small Business Analyst department. Recently, we have received several large clients. But I ran into a problem - I need to know the approximate time that each specialist spends on a certain object. These parameters will determine how many new employees we will hire for future projects and, in general, the course of personnel development. This is a very important question at this stage, so I appreciate your comments. Thank you for your responses.

Hi, I am an undergrad studying at Singapore SUTD.

I would like to seek advice on the knowledge and skills needed for a fresh grad data analysis and the modules I should be learning as an undergrad.

I have asked around and was told the following are the important skills set to obtain:

Problem-solving

Mathematics Statistics

Data processing using Excel

SQL

Data processing using Python or R

Application of statistics in Python or R

Also, I am currently pursuing a minor in AI which requires me to take an introductory to AI module. However, I am more interested in taking up an Information Retri IR) module compared to an introductory to AI module. As I believe IR would provide skills set and knowledge more valuable to a Data Analyst compared to the application of AI.

Hence, would like inputs comparing IR to AI and which skills would be more applicable for the career as a data analyst?

Also would forgo the minor would affect my employability as a data analyst?

Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you guys soon

&#160;Hi All,

Since my contract is soon ending, I am looking for BA jobs in Bay Area, California.&#160;Most openings require knowledge of SAP, ERP, CRM, Peoplesoft, supply chain maangement to name a few. (hopefully I got those right). Other requirements are related database warehousing etc.&#160;Is this really the trend? Is anyone else facing the same situation or is it just me?<span class='Apple-style-span' style='font-family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; '>&#160;

How do I learn them if not on job? I am stuck in chicken and egg situation. Anyone knows any company that is OK about providing on job training to BAs in any of these? Or any other way of learning the ERP, Peoplesoft stuff that will help me be considered for jobs? I am a very functional BA but open to learning new stuff.

Hope to get some advise.

Thank You
