Can you provide some more details on the goals of this meeting and the state of the project?  Generally, the "fact finding" and "requirements gathering" are no part of the same session.   Fact finding sessions are generally performed upfront when the project vision is just a one liner and the project initiator/sponsor wants to get some more info to ensure that this project is worthwhile and make sense in the context of the existing business processes and systems.

So...

...what state is your project in (do you have a project charter, vision, high-level requirements, etc.)?

...what is the main goal of this session/meeting?

Best regards,

- Adrian

Dear Adrian:

Thank you so much for your reply. The presentation is actually a part of testing my communication skills. The question goes " Based on Microsoft CRM, to implement a contact management and client tracking solution, facilitate a fact finding planning session and take us through the process of gathering our specifications and requirements for this project."

I was not sure what i have to do. Please do let me know.

Thanks

Kumar

Hi Kumar,

So your main goal is to create a presentation which you will present to an audience (who is your audience) and which will be all presented at one time?  And the goal of this presentation is NOT to actually perform fact finding and requirements gathering but to present how you would go about doing requirements gathering and fact finding.  Is this correct?  Is this part of something like Toastmasters or this is an actual assignment that your boss has given you and he/she actually expects your to either gather requirements for a real systems or role play requirements gathering for a fictitious system?

I'll be glad to give you some direction but I'm trying first to understand what your end goal is.

Dear Adrian:

My audiences are supervisor and team members (they will act like company key stakeholders)and it will be presented at one time. In that case, i have to simulate a fact finding and requirements gathering. This is not a real time assignment but my boss wants to see how i am approaching real time clients if the project is on contact management and client tracking solution. So i have to play a BA role in gathering client tracking solution and contact management based on Microsoft CRM. My end goal is that I have to show my communication skills and how i go through a fact finding session and take them through the process of gathering requirements using any requirements gathering technique? i can use any tools and techniques. what do you suggest that i do?

So if i am right, in a fact finding approach, is the argument between a sponsor/initiator and a BA ?

then when it comes to requirements gathering do i need to start with the stakeholder analysis, interviewing technique, etc. ??

What do you suggest that i do ? The total session time is within 30 min
