Re: How to become a BA with no experience

Hi:

Back in the early 90's Home Savings of America (Irwindale Ca)  used to promote administrative assistants into BAs.  I don't know if such still occurs.

Nowadays, alot of technical writers are promoted into BAs.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Adrian-

I'm leaning more towards the technical side of Business Analysis.  I'm definitely interested in getting my Masters degree, but limited time keeps me from doing this.  How are online colleges looked upon in I.T.?  I'm looking into The University of Phoenix.  Is a degree from this school online considered equal to a degree from a traditional school in the eyes of someone who will be hiring someone with no I.T. background? I know that as a Recruiter, I've seen University of Phoenix and DeVry University on several consultant's resumes who seem to have done very well for themselves.  Are there any other schools online that may be better than these two?

To be honest, I've interviewed many business analysts with degrees from University of Phoenix and DeVry and I was not terribly impressed.  Having said that, it is ultimately up to you to succeed.  If you take it seriously, gain the knowledge, gain some experience then you should not have a problem even without a degree.  Choose a degree which teaches you what you want to learn and not one which might be better perceived by the recruiters.

A good friend of mine was an instructor at the University of Phoenix and he was great - so it's hard to tell.

Generally, there are good reasons why certain schools are ranked better than others: quality of instruction, networking opportunities, caliber of professors, etc.

Hi

I can refer you to a link that has an inctroduction to Business Analysis Book that waslks you through the basics,  There us also a book of templates or you can download all the templates in word format that are ready for use.  These books are in electronic form and a paperback has also been published. With these books you can definitely learn how to be a business analyst..  They are in user friendly terms and have graphical presentations.  The are a combination of the dummy books and how to guide.  Good luck hop this helps.
