Help needed with some common interview questions

hello

I have been preparing for a business analyst and I came across a few questions and was looking to see if you guys can help me figure out answers for the following questions. Any help would be really appreciated

Have you used customized version of Rational Unified Process?

Give an example when you successfully acted as an interface between the technology team and the business areas?

Let us say you have created a class diagram for a given subject area. How do you make sure that you have captured all the methods/properties for a class and that you have capture all the classes.

Give an example of a situation when you managed conflict effectively.

What is your favorite mode of communication? Why?

Let us say you in a JAD session and someone is constantly trying to divert the topic from what is on agenda for you to some peripheral item. How do you bring the session back on track?

What is the difference between Agile and Unified Process methodology?

How do you manage risk for a project?

What is your experience in project management?

Do you have any experience working with Enterprise configuration projects?

Describe the most challenging problem you have ever solved. What was your approach in doing so?

Describe a situation when you used some innovative technique for communicating ideas across?

How do you handle criticism of your work?

Do you have any experience with Business Process Reengineering? Explain.

How do you ensure that you have focused on all the necessary details of a task?

Explain What is Interface / Integration mapping?

How would you use Requirements Modeling and when?

What approaches do you need when 2 companies merge?

What type of push back have you received from the business users in relation to Quality Assurance?

What does a Business Analyst do when DEV Team recommends a better solution in the application? How does a Business Analyst determine the solution is good and that it is going to work for the customer?

What is contained in typical Requirements Management plan?

Describe a time when you had to deal with a stakeholder that just didn’t want to participate in one of your requirements workshops and tried to sabotage it. What did you do?

Describe a situation when you were unable to deliver one of your requirements documents on time. What did you do?

Tell us about a time when you needed to gain approval for one of your business requirements documents but a stakeholder kept on delaying or postponing meeting with you.

As a business analyst, describe your ideal project environment.

Describe a time when you introduced a new idea or process into a project or department and how it improved the process or situation.

Describe a time when you had to win a difficult stakeholder over to accept the project change that will affect his/her department. How did you do it

Describe a time when you were in a project where change happened constantly without any change control to requirements. How did you deal with this situation and how did you overcome the associated challenges?

Describe a time when you had to deal with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. How was the message different?

Re: Help needed with some common interview questions

If you ask 20 questions all at once you probably won't get answers for any. Why are you asking these? Were you asked to provide answers ahead of time in writing?

Many of these are covered in our Interview Questions section.  Feel free to search them and read up.

I think you are asking about an interview question. Correct?

Here are some tips for other questions you might encounter such as: What are your weaknesses?

You must approach this from a Recruiter’s perspective. The reason this question is asked is to see if a candidate actually has the ability to introspect and identify flaws. Because identifying flaws in yourself is the first and most important step. Fixing them is easier.

Most often, people flock to the well known and used answer of “My biggest weakness is that I am a perfectionist”.

There are a few reasons why this answer doesn’t bode well for many interviewees. One reason is that it is completely overused and unoriginal. Another is that it is an answer that is designed to try to make you look good and the person interviewing you can see right through this!

How can you answer this:

There is no definite way of answering this question. Just make sure that your answer is honest, shows self- introspection and includes a story of self improvement. This way whoever is asking the question knows that you have really spent time reflecting on your abilities and flaws. In addition this shows, that you take initiative and have began a journey with positive indications of self-improvement.

Let’s talk about it in detail:

Choosing a weakness:

This is the first and most important step to make your answer look genuine and acceptable. Therefore choose an answer that is:

  • Obvious and has been noticed by the interviewer already: “English is not my primary language. My spoken English is not very good.” or “I haven’t had much work experience.”
  • Something that is NOT extremely crucial for the role that you are applying for:

For a Finance Role: “I am not very good at interacting with people and I am socially awkward.”

For a Sales & Marketing Role: “I have always performed poorly in Mathematics. Trigonometry and Calculus are just not my cup of tea.”

  • A common human failure that is shared by most people: “I find it hard to say no to people” or “I have not really made the most of the opportunities that life has given me”
