Functional Vs. Non-Functional

Hello Everyone,

I just started as a BA about a month and a half ago.  So far, I love it, and it has been amazing!  The only thing I seem to be having a rough time with is distinguishing the difference between FR, and NFR's.  I know they say the "ility" words tend to lean more towards the NF side, and that functional is more of what the system shall do, but is there anything actually within the requirement itself that can help me point out the difference??

Thank you all so much in advance!

Jim K.

Re: Functional Vs. Non-Functional

Hi Jim,

Take a look at these three interview questions and see if you can find what you are looking for:

 What are non-functional requirements?

How do you discover and elicit non-functional requirements?

How do you categorize non-functional requirements?

Let us know if you need more details.

Re: Functional Vs. Non-Functional

be sure to read thos references.

And my simple answer; functions produce a tangible output, non functional are about how fast, how available and who they do it for,
